Hardware Matched
Intake, intercooler, exhaust, turbo, fuel and clutch capability all affect whether Stage 2 is sensible.
Stage 2 ECU remapping at PPG is a diagnostics-first calibration route for suitable modified vehicles. The service is £450, includes health and suitability checks, and is matched to the vehicle's supporting hardware, ECU software and real condition before calibration.
PPG treats Stage 2 as a calibration decision, not a badge. The vehicle needs the right hardware, the right ECU software route and no unresolved faults before performance software is installed.
Intake, intercooler, exhaust, turbo, fuel and clutch capability all affect whether Stage 2 is sensible.
The ECU software is identified before calibration. Similar vehicles can run different ECU versions and should not be treated as identical.
Unresolved DPF, boost, fuelling, sensor, clutch or gearbox faults must be diagnosed before performance calibration.
Performance gains are vehicle-dependent and are not guaranteed. Calculator or quoted figures are estimates unless measured independently on a suitable rolling road.
A good Stage 2 tune starts with saying no when the setup is not ready yet.
Assessment First. Diagnose Properly. Fix It Right.
We confirm the vehicle details, current modifications, fault history, mileage, intended use and any previous software work.
PPG checks fault codes, basic live data and suitability. If the vehicle is not healthy enough to tune, diagnosis comes first.
The ECU software is identified, the original file is retained where supported, and the calibration is matched to the confirmed hardware.
OBD, bench, boot or unlocking routes are selected by ECU support, followed by post-write checks and aftercare guidance.
Stage 2 is not the best answer for every vehicle. This comparison helps customers book the right first step.
| Route | Best for | Important note |
|---|---|---|
| Stage 1 | Healthy standard vehicles needing stronger power, torque and response. | Usually the right route when no major supporting hardware has been fitted. |
| Stage 2 | Suitable modified vehicles with confirmed hardware, healthy logs and a clear calibration goal. | A Stage 2 remap will not repair weak hardware, poor maintenance or unresolved faults. |
| Diagnostics First | Vehicles with warning lights, limp mode, smoke, DPF, AdBlue, boost, clutch or gearbox concerns. | Fix the fault state before asking the ECU to deliver more load. |
More requested torque can expose weak parts quickly. PPG will not use a remap to hide a mechanical, emissions or driveline problem.
Boost leaks, actuator issues, low fuel pressure, injector faults and failing sensors need diagnosis before calibration.
Emissions faults, countdown warnings, forced regeneration issues or blocked DPF symptoms should be assessed first.
Clutch slip, gearbox flare or driveline vibration can worsen after tuning if the vehicle is already at its limit.
Useful checks before booking.
Stage 2 ECU remapping is £450. Final suitability depends on ECU type, access method, vehicle condition, supporting hardware and calibration requirements.
Usually no. Stage 2 normally requires suitable supporting hardware. If the vehicle is standard, a Stage 1 or Economy remap may be more appropriate.
No. Warning lights, limp mode, DPF faults or unresolved drivability faults should be diagnosed first.
No. Gains depend on the engine, turbo, ECU, fuel, hardware, maintenance and vehicle condition. Quoted figures are estimates unless measured on a suitable rolling road.
Yes. Stage 2 remapping and supporting hardware are vehicle modifications and should be declared to your insurance provider.
Usually, yes. Where the ECU and tool route support it, PPG retains the original file so the vehicle can be returned to standard later.
