Machine Process
The removed filter can be cleaned outside the vehicle using a controlled workshop process rather than relying on the car to complete the whole recovery.
When an on-car clean is not the right route, PPG offers off-car DPF cleaning for removed filters. This is the deeper workshop and trade option: controlled machine cleaning for soot and ash removal, inspection, clear limits and no pretending a physically damaged filter can be magically saved.
Removed-filter service. Removal, refitting, gaskets, seized hardware, diagnostics and workshop labour are separate unless quoted.
Price and limits
The £199 price is for the off-car cleaning/refurbishment service on a DPF that has already been removed. It does not include removal, refitting, seized hardware, gaskets, diagnostics or workshop labour unless separately quoted.
A cleaned filter still needs a healthy vehicle around it. If the fault that blocked the DPF is still there, the filter can block again after refitting.
Why choose off-car cleaning
Off-car cleaning makes sense when the filter needs deeper cleaning away from the vehicle, when a garage has already removed it, or when on-car cleaning is not suitable because of access, condition or fault evidence.
The removed filter can be cleaned outside the vehicle using a controlled workshop process rather than relying on the car to complete the whole recovery.
The filter is checked for obvious signs of cracking, melting, contamination or missing internal material before expectations are set.
Garages can handle diagnosis, removal and refitting while using PPG for the specialist DPF cleaning stage.
The process
A clean filter still needs a healthy vehicle around it, so the repair path does not stop at the machine.
The DPF is removed by PPG if quoted, or supplied already removed by a trade/customer route.
We check for obvious physical damage that cleaning cannot repair.
The filter goes through the off-car cleaning process where it is suitable.
After refitting, pressure data, fault codes and regeneration behaviour should be checked.
Soot and ash removal proof
This Citroen Picasso DPF was loaded with soot and ash. Soot can be reduced through regeneration when the vehicle is healthy, but ash is the build-up that will not simply burn away. That is where off-car machine cleaning earns its place, provided the filter substrate is still physically intact.
Recorded before cleaning in this example.
Ash needs proper off-car cleaning, not repeated forced regens.
No one should promise a save before checking suitability.
When it makes sense
After refitting
If the fault that blocked it is still there, the filter can block again. After refitting, pressure readings, fault codes and regeneration behaviour should be checked where possible.
EGR, boost, fuelling, sensor and temperature faults should be resolved before the vehicle returns to normal use.
After refitting, pressure readings, fault codes and regeneration behaviour should be checked where possible.
Cleaning cannot turn a physically damaged or missing substrate into a compliant filter. PPG supports lawful DPF assessment and cleaning.
Before sending a filter
Confirm vehicle details, fault codes and symptoms before removal where possible.
Use secure packaging to prevent damage in transit and protect sensors, pipes and exposed ports where applicable.
Address the root cause before the cleaned filter is refitted so the same fault does not return.
FAQs
No. The £199 is for the cleaning/refurbishment service on a removed DPF. Removal, refitting, gaskets, seized hardware, diagnostics and labour are separate unless quoted.
No. Off-car cleaning is designed to remove soot and ash contamination where the filter substrate is physically intact. It cannot repair melted, cracked, collapsed, missing or chemically contaminated filter material.
Yes. The service is trade friendly where the garage handles vehicle-side diagnosis, removal and refitting separately.
Pressure readings, fault codes, sensor behaviour and regeneration behaviour should be checked where possible. The vehicle fault that caused the blockage must be resolved.

A carbon clean can help the right vehicle, but warning lights, limp mode, smoke or DPF faults should be diagnosed first. PPG checks the cause before recommending cleaning.
