What is airbag crash-data reset?

The airbag control module is part of the supplemental restraint system, usually called SRS. Depending on the vehicle, it may also be described as an airbag ECU, restraint control module or sensing and diagnostic module.

A collision can leave stored crash-event information in the module. On a supported, suitable unit, the reset service addresses that stored data. It is not a repair for deployed airbags, damaged seat belts, pretensioners, wiring or a defective control module.

An airbag warning light is not enough to diagnose crash data. A qualified technician needs to establish the actual fault and the manufacturer's required repair route before deciding what should be reset or replaced.

A reset is not a complete SRS repair

Removing crash data does not prove that the vehicle's restraint system will operate correctly in another collision. The complete system needs the appropriate repairs, installation checks and diagnostic verification.

Follow the vehicle manufacturer's repair instructions. Where those instructions require module replacement, a crash-data reset is not a substitute. A catalogue listing indicates a reference to check, not manufacturer approval to reuse any particular module.

Do not treat an extinguished warning light or a successfully completed bench service as a roadworthiness or safety certificate.

Find your airbag control module

Search the complete part number on your SRS module label. A listed reference is not a guarantee of compatibility: we confirm the exact version, vehicle and condition before accepting work. Choose your module to view the £69 service checkout.

Before you send your module

The label is only the start

Send a clear photo of the complete label, your vehicle registration or VIN, make, model and year, plus details of the accident and any SRS repairs already completed.

If your part number is not listed, we can still assess the enquiry. Do not buy a replacement or post your module until suitability is confirmed.

Ask About Your Module

What the £69 service covers

Crash-data reset on a supported, physically serviceable module. This is a service on your supplied unit; no replacement module is included.

Airbags, seat belts, pretensioners, impact sensors, wiring repairs, delivery and unrelated coding or diagnostics are not included. Water damage or a module that does not communicate needs separate assessment.

Safety comes first. Clearing crash data does not certify the vehicle safe or repair the SRS. The vehicle's safety-system faults must be repaired and the complete system checked by a qualified technician before use. We do not disable airbags or bypass SRS faults.

From enquiry to return

A straightforward workshop process

  1. 01 · Confirm

Send your label and vehicle details. We check whether the reset service is suitable.

  2. 02 · Book & send

Order your reset online. Wait for support confirmation and a job reference before posting or dropping off your module.

  3. 03 · Reset & return

We carry out the agreed work. Refitting and full vehicle SRS checks remain essential.

Why the complete module label matters

Make, model and registration are useful, but they do not identify every SRS hardware and software variant. Send a clear photograph of the full label, including the manufacturer reference and any suffix, rather than a cropped part number.

Tell us whether this is the original unit, which restraints deployed, what repairs have been completed and whether the module has water damage, corrosion or previous repair marks. Include relevant diagnostic findings where available.

Do not choose another catalogue reference as a substitute if yours is missing. Use our contact page to send the label and fault details. Unsupported or damaged units need an appropriate assessment or replacement route, not a guessed order.

Airbag module service in Newtownards and by post

Prestige Performance Group is at 36A Donaghadee Road, Newtownards, BT23 7EU. We welcome enquiries from vehicle owners, garages and body shops across Northern Ireland, including Belfast, Bangor and County Down, with postal support for confirmed jobs elsewhere in the UK.

Wait for support confirmation and your job reference before dispatch. Include your contact details, vehicle details, fault history and return address. Protect the removed module and connectors, keep it dry and use tracked, appropriately insured delivery.

Delivery is additional to the £69 module service. For Republic of Ireland enquiries, confirm shipping and any applicable customs arrangements before booking or posting. No fixed workshop turnaround is implied by a courier's delivery estimate.

Refitting and final vehicle checks

Airbag systems are safety-critical. Have removal, refitting and subsequent checks carried out by a suitably qualified technician following the instructions for the exact vehicle.

The technician must establish which airbags, belts, pretensioners, sensors, wiring or other components require replacement or attention. Any required coding, calibration, initialisation and diagnostic checks depend on the application and remain separate from a module-only reset.

For other vehicle electronics, see our BCM, BSI and CEM services or engine ECU and TCU cloning. These are different services and do not replace SRS repair procedures.

Airbag crash-data reset questions

How much does airbag crash-data reset cost?

It is £69 including VAT for a supported, suitable module supplied by you. Delivery, replacement hardware, physical SRS repairs, vehicle diagnostics and unrelated coding are not included.

Can every airbag module be reset?

No. The exact hardware and software, physical condition and vehicle manufacturer's repair requirements must be checked. A reset is not appropriate where replacement is required or the module is unsupported or damaged.

Will resetting crash data repair the airbags and seat belts?

No. It addresses supported stored module data only. Deployed or damaged restraint components must be dealt with separately according to the manufacturer's instructions.

Does an airbag warning light mean crash data is stored?

No. The light can indicate a range of SRS faults. Diagnosis is needed before ordering a reset, particularly where no collision or deployment has occurred.

Will the warning light definitely go out after a reset?

No guarantee can be made. Physical faults, incorrect parts, coding or other system problems can keep the warning light on. The full SRS needs diagnostic and functional checks after the appropriate repairs.

Will the original module need coding afterwards?

Requirements depend on the vehicle, module and repair history. Do not assume that retaining the original module removes every coding, initialisation or calibration requirement. Additional vehicle-side work is not included in the £69 reset.

What if my part number is not listed?

Send a photograph of the complete label with the vehicle and fault details. Do not select a similar reference as a substitute, buy a replacement or post the unit until the appropriate route has been confirmed.

Can I send my module by post?

Yes, for a confirmed suitable job with a reference and dispatch instructions. Pack the removed module securely and include the contact and vehicle details. Return delivery is additional; confirm shipping arrangements for Republic of Ireland enquiries before posting.

Can I remove an SRS module myself?

Use a suitably qualified technician. Airbags and pretensioners are safety-critical devices, and isolation, removal and refitting must follow the vehicle-specific manufacturer procedures. This page is not an SRS removal guide.

Check the module before you send it

Have the complete label and diagnostic findings ready. Choose the exact reference from the catalogue or contact the workshop when the part number, condition or repair route is uncertain.

Assessment First. Diagnose Properly. Fix It Right.
